What information is collected when you visit or use LangNet?
Non-personal information:
During your visit to LangNet, we may record certain information such as: the domain of your Internet
service (e.g., "xdepartment.gov"; "xuniversity.edu"; the type of browser
you are using; the type of operating system you use; the date, time, and
duration of your visit; the pages that you visit).
Personal information:
We collect only the information
that you volunteer about yourself, including your actual first and last
names (or names that you choose) when you register, and language learning
history, proficiency, and preferences data if you complete a self-assessment.
No personally identifiable information is collected by LangNet. We make
no attempts to identify individual users or their usage habits.
How will information be used?
- We will use non-personal information in
aggregate form only to analyze how LangNet is used and to make LangNet
more useful for our users. This information will not be used to record
information about individuals. We may monitor data logs to determine
trends in usage patterns and to diagnose system problems.
- Personal information that is collected about you is used by LangNet
only to give you feedback concerning your language learning, such as
the results of self-assessments, learning plans, etc. We may use and
share this information, in aggregate form concerning all users, to analyze
usage trends, but no individual user will be identified.
Is data collection mandatory or voluntary?
- The collection of information in LangNet
is strictly voluntary: You are not required to enter any information
about yourself if you do not wish to do so.
- The only required information is a user name and a password in order
to access Learning Objects.
